Say something or not. Go deeper or stay shallow. Confront or walk by. Keep looking or stop looking. Spend time on it or spend time on something else. Scream or talk normally. Read or watch TV. Get to know celebrities or get to know yourself. Acknowledge their pain or acknowledge yours. Spend time pining or spend time reflecting. Exhibit compassion or exhibit frustration. Be thankful or be entitled. Develop skills or develop excuses. Learn or stay stagnant.
Saying that you have no choice is like saying there’s nothing to eat in a grocery store. Your problem isn’t the choice: the problem is the emotional energy it takes to live that choice. And it may be a lot…but it’s still a choice.
