If your goal is to breathe underwater – like Aquaman – you’re sunk. Impossible? Not necessarily, but right now it is. Give yourself a couple of centuries of work in genetics and you might get it. Maybe. But it still (likely) might not happen.
And then you’re in a tizzy because you really want to breathe underwater. In fact, you have to. Like Aquaman. And anything less would be unacceptable. If you can’t do it now, what’s the point?
But what if you redefined what it meant to “breathe underwater?” What if you changed your expectations? “What I could do is to put on this SCUBA gear. It’s not exactly what I want but there are so many opportunities that are now opened up to me because of it.”
It’s not the lack of a technological breakthrough that is getting in your way. It’s your expectations.
