Rule 6: Don’t take yourself so damn seriously.
The notion of following Rule 6 is the notion of taking the problem seriously but not taking yourself seriously. Every day, it’s all on the line. It could all come crashing down at any moment. What is the benefit of freaking out about it? How is that a good use of your energy and time? Will that help solve the problem?
You are not your project; you are you. And your project is your project. If the project succeeds, you learn. If your project fails, you learn. When your project is over, you learn. And the next step in all of these scenarios is that…you move on.
When I have forgotten rule 6, I created much more damage and consternation for myself than if I had remembered. And you always, always, always get through the project. But how you get through says a lot about you.
